Hana & Nord - Webshop on desktop and mobile

Context & Challenge

Hana & Nord sells Japandi furniture: serene pieces where Japanese minimalism meets Scandinavian function. An off-the-shelf shop platform was the obvious route. But it rarely comes alone: an app for stock, a tool for customer mail, a connector for shipping, each with a subscription and a slice of script attached. For a brand that sells calm, a shop that stutters is a contradiction. The question was never which platform, but whether it could also feel quiet.

The Strategy & Concept

Build it ourselves. Not because bespoke is always better: for most shops an existing platform is wiser. But here the storefront is the product. Owning it end to end means no plug-in dictates how a product page breathes. A webshop is not a display window but a business system: stock, payment, shipping and customer contact belong in the same database.

Execution & Action

For the visitor: a collection with filters, product pages with variants and delivery times, and a basket leading into a secure payment environment. Behind that sits the part nobody sees. The moment someone checks out, the server recalculates price and stock and reserves the piece for as long as the payment session runs. Two buyers, one last chair: one of them gets it. After payment the order is marked, the label requested and the confirmation sent, each step ticked off separately so nothing happens twice. The admin holds orders, stock, discounts and an in-house mail inbox.

Results & Impact

One system instead of five subscriptions that each know a fragment of the customer. The manager answers a question in the same screen that shows the order history. Building it yourself has a price too: what you make, you maintain. A security review belongs to that job as much as a new collection does. For a brand that sells calm, it was the right choice here.

The brand story came first: the reason for being, the tone and the colour palette this shop builds on.
